Society of the Catholic Apostolate

The Society of the Catholic Apostolate is an international community of priests and brothers, founded by the Roman priest St. Vincent Pallotti (1795–1850). From the name of the founder comes the popular title “Pallottines.” The official Latin title is “Societas Apostolatus Catholici,” whose initials form the abbreviation SAC, added to the names of Pallottines.

The Society was founded in Rome in 1835. Today, it has more than 2,300 members worldwide, living in over 320 local communities across more than 55 countries on all continents. In terms of membership, the Pallottines rank 17th among male religious communities in the Church.

The priests and brothers of the Society come from over 55 nations. For communication within the Society, there are seven official languages: Italian, English, German, Portuguese, Polish, Spanish, and French.

Members of the Society dedicate their lives through promises of chastity, poverty, obedience, perseverance, sharing of resources, and service.

The motto of the Society is the words of St. Paul the Apostle: “Caritas Christi urget nos”“The love of Christ urges us on” (2 Cor 5:14).

The patroness of the Society is Mary, Queen of Apostles.

The Society of the Catholic Apostolate (SAC), founded by St. Vincent Pallotti, is dedicated to reviving faith and rekindling charity. Pallottines work to inspire every Christian to live as an apostle in daily life through service, faith, and love.

Our History

St. Vincent Pallotti (1795–1850) was born in Rome to Petro Paolo Pallotti and Maria Maddalena De Rosa. At the heart of his spirituality was humility and joy, rooted in his awareness of God’s infinite love and mercy. This love inspired him to respond to the material and spiritual needs of all—young and old, rich and poor, sick and healthy.

Recognizing the importance of collaboration, Pallotti founded the Union of the Catholic Apostolate on 9th January 1835, giving equal membership to laity, clergy, and religious, and valuing every work undertaken. His vision led to the establishment of the Society of the Catholic Apostolate (The Pallottines) more than 191 years ago, with a mission to educate the uneducated and uplift the marginalized.
